Bridlington Remembers
On the 17th December Bridlington held its annual Remembrance Day Parade in the town centre.
A large number of people gathered at the station and were shepherded into formation by several very vocal stewards.
The parade included many ex. servicemen from all the services. There were also affiliated youth service organisations as well as civilian and civic attendees.
Residents of Bridlington and visitors lined the street and applauded those in the parade.
The lengthy column marched from the station to the Cenotaph where services for those who lost their lives in the World Wars and all other hostilities were remembered.
Following the services each group laid their wreathes at the Cenotaph and then returned to the column and marched to Market Street accompanied by a lone piper.
The column was then addressed and thanked by the Mayor of Bridlington and the stewards.
Our Vice Chairman, Mike Gold, laid the Burlington Probus wreath on behalf of the chairman, Eric Butterworth, and we were fortunate enough to have our party of three photographed at the Cenotaph and included in the two page report in the Bridlington Echo.
Here are a few images from the day.
SPEAKER REVIEWS 2024-2025
SEPTEMBER 10
Today Linda McCarthy gave us a fascinating and entertaining talk on The Oldest Profession. She went back to roman times going through changes of law and behaviours to modern day. Some of these were hilarious, but others showed a sad reflection of earlier chauvinistic society where women were prosecuted for prostitution as they were at fault for leading men astray. Laws of this nature were not repealed till 20th Century.
Altogether very good, educational and entertaining talk, presented extremely well by Linda.

SEPTEMBER 24
Today was an informal day, no ladies present, and we were given an oversight of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. First to speak was a lady Trish who gave us a short resume of her caring experience with her husband for last 2 years (he unfortunately died 5 weeks ago) with the problems she encountered and the help she received from various sources. She now does support work for a charity called Right Minds. She was followed by Amanda from Alzheimer’s Society explain what the charity did over the UK. What followed was an informal discussion with both ladies and the audience which lead to cross information learning.
These ladies provided one of the best talks and the club expressed their talk.

OCTOBER 22
Sarah Willoughby from The Dogs Trust. A similar organisation as Cats Protection League. Started in 1861 as Canine Defence Leage and named changed in 2003. The trust has 22 centres around the country catering to strays, unwanted or unable to cope with due to changes in circumstances. They have a policy of not killing dogs unless they are beyond hope of surviving. They have helplines to cover dog behaviour issues, animals being abused, for people struggling to feed dog but really don’t want to los e them. The trust does dog training classes, re-house as many as possible. They even have an old dogs home.
The Trust is a charity and rely on donations and donations from wills. Sarah was animated, keen and knew her subject well. An excellent speaker worthy of inviting to talk to your club etc

NOVEMBER 12
Paula Connelly spoke on North York Moors Park – crosses and standing stones. It seems there over a thousand such items spread over park, Paula showed us the more famous and noteworthy to visit with slides and an excellent commentary. Paul and husband have walked virtually over all the moors including the important watering holes! She is knowledgeable and answered questions with ease. An excellent speaker and recommended to anyone.

NOVEMBER 26
This was an informal meeting and Mike Gold had organised a quiz. Ladies were invited. The quiz was excellent and everybody said how good and fun it was. They were all looking forward to the next one.

DECEMBER 10
This is the clubs annual Christmas lunch and guest speaker was Reverend Robert Amos. He gave a light hearted talk about the season and how it relates to people via jokes and humorous stories. He has good sense of presentation and with intercourse wi th the audience we all thoroughly enjoyed his talk. Very recommended. Excellent.

As 20Early Christmas Present for Yorkshire!
It looks like Yorkshire has received the best delivery this Christmas!
We are thrilled to announce that our third helicopter, G-YAIR, has officially landed at our Nostell Air Base and is ready to join our lifesaving fleet.
After undergoing its medical fit-out at Airbus Helicopters UK in Oxford, G-YAIR now joins G-YAAA and G-YORX as part of our rotational fleet. This means we can continue to operate two helicopters daily from Nostell and Topcliffe, with the added resilience of our own third aircraft.
Having G-YAIR in the fleet ensures we can provide a no-notice replacement during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance or mandatory training. It also removes the need to lease a spare helicopter, helping us save vital resources while keeping our operational availability as close to 100% as possible.
We’re thrilled to have G-YAIR ready for action and can’t wait to see it helping us save lives across Yorkshire in the months and years ahead!
Thank You for Doubling the Difference This Christmas
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we’re thrilled to share the success of this year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge. In just three days, we reached our ambitious target of £20,420 – far ahead of the week-long deadline!
The funds raised will help us replace our aging crew kit, including 12 essential flight suits and 6 helmets, which our crew rely on during every mission to keep them safe and ready to respond.
We received 124 donations, and thanks to match funding from Candis and Beadlam Tractor Run, every donation was doubled, helping us hit the total even faster!
On behalf of everyone at Yorkshire Air Ambulance, thank you for standing by our side and helping us continue our lifesaving mission.
